Introducing FinanceWorks!™ – Free with Merrimack24 Online Banking.

FinanceWorks is a comprehensive online tool for managing all of your finances in one convenient place. Developed by the same people that brought you Quicken® and QuickBooks, America’s leading personal financial management software, FinanceWorks was created to help individuals and families easily keep track of their finances, gain control of spending, develop budgets, set goals, and view their complete financial picture.

Summertime, and the Banking is Easy!

5 Tips for Making Banking a Breeze This Summer

Tip #1 – Look for the SUM Network Logo
We’re proud to be a part of the SUM Network of surcharge-free ATMs. Search for a SUM Network ATM to get some quick cash before hitting the road and you can enjoy free foreign ATM transactions wherever you travel. The SUM Network gives you access to thousands of surcharge-free ATMs.

Tip #2 – Online Banking Keeps Your Days Open
Our secure online banking system gives you the power and flexibility to check balances, transfer funds, pay bills, check rates and more 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Save time and money this summer with fewer trips to the bank, fewer stamps to purchase and less time spent on banking.

Tip #3 – A Quick Call Can Help Prevent Identity Theft
At The Merrimack, we want to help ensure that no fraudulent activity is being conducted with your debit card during international travel. Consult with us prior to using your debit card abroad to help keep your finances secure. It’s always wise to verify that the networks we participate in will work with the country in which you are traveling.

Tip #4 – Build a Budget
Summer is a great time to start a budget. Sign up for online banking and take advantage of FinanceWorks to help you track where your money goes and start saving for next summer’s vacation!

Tip #5 – Direct Deposit During Vacation
Save yourself one more errand before the big summer road-trip or vacation by having your paycheck, social security check, or any other regularly scheduled payment deposited directly into your account. Funds are typically available on the day the check is issued. Visit one of our convenient locations to set up direct deposit today.

Merrimack Style is … Making Every Effort to Protect Our Planet.

Meet “The Green Team” – 14 staff members representing all areas of The Merrimack and dedicated to promoting earth-friendly practices at all of our office locations. For the last six months, they have been working on ways we can create efficiencies around reducing, reusing and recycling. Most recently, The Green Team made recycling convenient for customers by initiating a special plastic bag exchange program in honor of Earth Day on April 22nd. Customers were encouraged to bring a minimum of ten plastic grocery bags to all branch locations in exchange for one large, green re-usable tote. More than 3,000 plastic bags were collected by the end of the day! All bags were then recycled at local Shaw’s, Hannaford and Market Basket stores.

Merrimack Style is … Delicious!

The Merrimack won naming rights for a sandwich at The Works Bakery Café in Concord and an ice cream flavor at Granite State Candy Shoppe at the Annual Friends Program Charity Auction on May 21, 2010.

Try the new Merrimack Stack at The Works Bakery Café in Concord, NH. A delicious combination of turkey, ham, bacon, herb cream cheese with spinach, tomato and cucumber on multigrain bread.

Sample Merrimack Mocha Munch at Granite State Candy Shoppe.
A satisfying blend of mocha ice cream swirled with homemade chocolate chips and butter toffee bits. And for a light and refreshing treat, try our featured float, The Rizzi Fizzy, named for bank President Paul Rizzi. For one month, the black cherry ice cream float will be made available while supplies last.

The Friends Program connects individual volunteers throughout all of New Hampshire with others in need of help or support. Find out how you can become involved by visiting www.friendsprogram.org.

Countdown to Opt-in: Deadline for Overdraft Coverage is August 15th, 2010

If you have a personal checking or money market account at The Merrimack and wish to continue having regular overdraft services applied to your ATM or everyday debit transactions, we must receive your permission to opt-in by August 15, 2010.

What is an everyday debit transaction? Examples include payments you make with your debit card at the grocery store, at the gas station, online and even over the phone. It is not a check or automatic/regularly occurring payments, such as monthly health club membership dues.

Please note that after August 15, our standard overdraft service for ATM and everyday debit card transactions will be eliminated unless you have opted-in.

If you haven’t already done so, you may opt-in by returning the form inserted in your June and July statements, by calling 603-225-2793, by visiting any office, or by using the easy and secure online form.

Protect Yourself from Identity Theft!

The sophisticated digital world we live in has made communications, transactions, and information exchange efficient and simple. But despite such progressive change, these advances have also given way to new methods for extraction of personal information.

Identity theft is the crime of stealing someone’s personal information for the purpose of using it fraudulently. Such personal, identifying information can include social security numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, usernames, passwords and medical records. Common fraudulent activity can include the opening of new credit card accounts, taking out loans in the victim's name, stealing money from financial accounts or using available credit.

Fortunately, there are preventative measures you can take. Start with safe computer basics by adopting these simple security techniques:

  • Use complex passwords, such as those that combine 14 or more alphabetic and non-alphabetic characters (special or numeric)
  • Keep your password confidential by not sharing it
  • Have a unique password for every application
  • Never select the “save my password” option
  • Ignore unsolicited requests for information
  • Do not open unknown or unexpected email attachments
  • Avoid downloading “freeware” such as games, greeting cards or social networking applications
  • Never complete a pop-up form
  • Always report suspicious activity
