Concord, NH - October 23, 2006—Ronald A. Wilbur, President and CEO of Merrimack County Savings Bank, has been elected for a three-year term as board director of the American Bankers Association. Merrimack County Savings Bank is a $400 million state chartered savings bank which was chartered in 1867. In the past ten years it has evolved from a one office mutual thrift serving a local marketplace to a financial institution providing a full range of consumer and commercial services, from Nashua to Concord, New Hampshire.

Wilbur has worked in the savings bank industry since 1974, when he served in the Education Department of the National Association of Mutual Savings Banks. In 1979 he continued his work in the savings bank industry in New Hampshire as the President of the Savings Banks Association of NH and later the NH Bankers Association (NHBA). In these capacities he worked closely on legislative and regulatory issues at both state and national levels. Besides his current role on the Board of Directors of the American Bankers Association, he serves as a member of the ABA’s Government Relations Council and as a member (and Past Chair) of the ABA’s Mutuality Advisory Council, a council of mutual savings banks providing the ABA with policy guidance on related thrift issues.

As a banker, Mr. Wilbur has served as Chair of NHBA and Chair of the NHBA Legislative Committee. He has been involved with numerous civic and non-profit organizations and is Trustee and Immediate Past Chair of Concord Hospital and Chair-elect of the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce.
